Peter Brian Gabriel, British singer, musician, and songwriter rose to fame as the lead vocalist and flautist of the progressive rock group Genesis. After leaving Genesis, Gabriel went on to a successful solo career. More recently he has focused on producing and promoting world music, and pioneering digital distribution methods for music. He has also been involved in various humanitarian efforts. In 2007 Gabriel was honoured as a BMI Icon at the 57th annual BMI London Awards for his "influence on generations of music makers."
Gabriel was also awarded the Polar Music Prize in 2009 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010. In September 2002, Gabriel released his 11th studio album "Up", his first full-length work in a decade. Entirely self-produced, "Up" returned to some of the themes of his work in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Three singles failed to make an impression on the chart, in part because almost every track exceeded six minutes in length. In spite of this weak performance by singles, the album has managed to sell well globally, and Gabriel continues to draw from a loyal fan base from his almost forty years in the music business.
The "Up" album was followed by a world tour, featuring his daughter Melanie Gabriel on backing vocals. This recording shows the true mastery of one of the best British vocalists and performers of our time!
